[Sustainability & Circularity] Turning Old Favorites into Great Love! Tainan's "Step30" Event Enters its 3rd Year
In today's pursuit of environmental protection and sustainability, "resource circularity" shouldn't just be a cold industrial slogan; it can be a heartwarming international rescue mission. Recently, the "Step30" (Old Shoes Save Lives) campaign kicked off enthusiastically in Tainan. This is not only a charity drive but also the best demonstration of maximizing the value of idle resources.
What is "Step30"?
Simply put, in many remote areas of Africa, a lack of resources means many children have to walk barefoot. This not only makes them prone to injuries but also exposes them to a terrifying parasite called the "jigger flea" (chigoe flea), which burrows into their feet, causing severe infections and even life-threatening conditions.
The "Step30" campaign calls on everyone to donate their wearable but unwanted old shoes. After being sorted, these shoes are sent to Africa. An old shoe in our eyes becomes a sturdy shield protecting their feet.
The Perfect Blend of Environmentalism and Charity
This event perfectly embodies the core spirit of resource circularity: extending the product lifecycle. Instead of just throwing unused items into the trash, we are allowing them to continue serving a purpose in another corner of the world. This significantly reduces waste generation and cuts down on the Earth's resources needed to manufacture new shoes.

The Wear on the Soles is Our Memory, and the Starting Point for Delivering Love
The "Step30" event has now entered its third year right here in Tainan, and it is truly a wonderful initiative that deserves everyone's encouragement and support!
When it comes to shoes, they are often discarded simply because the surface is a bit dirty, the style is outdated, or we just want to buy a new pair. As someone who is very passionate about sports and running, every pair of my running shoes usually covers a solid 700 to 900 kilometers with me on the road. They carry so much sweat and memories of staying healthy. Honestly, whenever I push them to their limit and have to retire them, I always feel a bit reluctant to let them go.
However, when it comes to our casual everyday shoes, it is actually very difficult to wear them down until the soles are completely gone. Rather than letting these perfectly good shoes sit in the closet collecting dust and eventually being thrown away as garbage, it's so much better to clean them up and donate them.
Participating in this kind of event not only frees up space at home and extends the life of the shoes, but it also tangibly helps protect feet in faraway places that desperately need it. This is the absolute best and warmest kind of resource circularity!
