[Editor's View] Discarded Gachapon Wins iF Design Award: The Crucial Step From "Thinking" to "Doing"
Can you imagine that casually discarded gachapon (capsule toy) shells could transform into colorful, stylish furniture? Recently, the Taiwanese brand ECOJOY collected used gachapon capsules and turned them into 100% recycled plastic stools, winning the prestigious 2025 German iF Design Award. It proves that by combining creativity with industrial design, waste materials can be given a completely new life.
I am Editor Mars. Seeing this news, as a peer in the recycling and materials industry, my mind was instantly flooded with ideas and inspirations.
Working in this industry, we deal with various materials every day and deeply understand that much of what is considered "waste" is simply misplaced resources. But to be honest, the gap between "thinking" and "doing" often comes down to just "one little thing"—and that one thing makes all the difference in reality.
What does that "one thing" entail?
-
Overcoming Practical Barriers: From the cost of front-end sorting and stabilizing the properties of recycled materials to back-end processing techniques, challenges are everywhere.
-
Cross-Disciplinary Integration: Figuring out how to take rigid industrial recycled materials and, through design aesthetics, turn them into products people genuinely love and want to buy.
-
The Determination to Execute: No matter how perfect the blueprint in our heads is, it requires rolling up our sleeves and building the process step by step on the production line.
ECOJOY's success is incredibly inspiring. It reminds us that while taking that crucial step is difficult, it is absolutely worth it. Our team is currently grounded in reality, continuously optimizing our manufacturing processes and circular resource applications within our expertise.
We expect ourselves not only to be thinkers with "many ideas" but also to be the doers who "bring ideas to life." We look forward to proudly sharing our own innovative achievements with you in the near future!
