TRI Develops AI Waterjet Technology to Crack the Challenge of High-Value Waste Tire Regeneration

Facing the global challenge of regenerating 30 million tons of waste tires annually, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has developed the "AI-WaJe™ AI-Optimized High-Activity Waterjet Tire Cleaning Process Technology," a winner of the R&D 100 Awards. Traditional mechanical crushing cannot solve the low activity caused by "over-crosslinking" in waste tires, leading to downcycled applications. ITRI's team uses the physical impact of high-pressure, high-speed water mist to successfully break chemical sulfur bonds in rubber, achieving a recycled rubber powder activity of 79%, far exceeding international standards, allowing it to be re-used in tire manufacturing. This technology combines AI algorithms to optimize process parameters, offers high processing efficiency, and has spun off into a startup, "Wonder Water Circular Material Technology," dedicated to promoting a closed-loop circular economy in the tire industry and seizing global waste tire processing opportunities.
